Reception Area

The new Reception Area is in the south range with its own external terrace. It accommodates the retail and refreshment areas along with a new display: What is a Museum?

Have you ever collected anything? Photographs perhaps, or music or holiday souvenirs? Why do you collect these things, and how do you look after them?

What is a Museum explains how museum collections give us fascinating insights into peoples' lives, tastes and environment. It shows how the museum has objects and works of art that reflect the people, culture and environment of Dundee, and of the wider world.

It explains how our staff work to collect objects, record them, care for them and share them with you.
