Cameron was one of the Scott Lauder Group, artists who studied under Robert Scott Lauder at the Trustees Academy in Edinburgh. This work is typical of his style, a cottage interior with a figure sitting alone absorbed in a task. Unusually the unspun wool seems to act as a second presence in the room - a bearded man.

Dundee Art Galleries and Museums became guardians of the Orchar Collection in 1987. Many of the oil paintings from the collection are on display in the Victoria Gallery at The McManus.
