'Sang de boeuf' glaze is highly prized and difficult to achieve. Named for its deep red colour (literally bull's blood), small changes in the shape of pot, thickness of glaze or placing in the kiln can affect the final colour. This has been given added drama by Gareth Mason's expressionist application of the glaze.
