Bronze flanged axe
Bronze flanged axe, Middle Bronze Age 3,150 -3,500 years ago
Field collection: Strelitz Wood, Cargill, Perth and Kinross
Donated by F. Kinmont, Esq.
Museum number 1958-467
This axe was made by pouring molten medal into a closed mould, a more sophisticated process than the open moulds used for flat axes. The flanged sides allowed the axe head to be attached to an angled wooden shaft.
