Clay amphora, 208-211 AD

Onion-shaped, buff-ware amphora. Amphorae are large capacity vessels. Many of the amphorae at Carpow have stamps from Southern Spain, and may have contained olive oil. Others probably held wine or a fish sauce called garum.
