Sword chape

Field collection: Excavation Carpow Legionary fortress, Abernethy, Perth and Kinross

The metal chape strengthened the bottom of the scabbard and prevented the sword from piercing the cloth or leather scabbard. A bit of silver or tin remains on the surface of this copper alloy chape and it would have been quite shiny when new.
