Stone cup-shaped lamp, Iron Age, 1,600 - 2,200 years ago

Lamps in the Iron Age were generally carved from stone. A dark sooty stain still remains on the front of this lamp from being burned. The lamp would have been filled with oil and a wick made from the stem of a rush floated in it.
