Model of whaling ship in glass case
Model of whaling ship in glass case
Model made of wood; case made of glass
Donated by Mr Robert Ferguson in 1975
Museum number 1975-2-7
This model ship sits within a glass dome. The model is a square sterned whaling ship with three masts and a standing bowsprit. As there is no funnel, she definitely dates from before 1860, while the style would suggest a date of around 1830. The ship is painted black with a single white stripe around her hull. She is barque rigged and has two white-hulled whaleboats on her deck. The case is in the form of a glass dome.
