The harmonious colours of this rural scene showcase Chalmers' expertise and talent. Chalmers was a very good friend of Orchar and this scene was painted whilst staying at his home in Broughty Ferry.

As the son of a country carpenter, this image would have been very familiar to Orchar and it is easy to understand why he purchased this painting upon completion - perhaps it evoked fond memories from childhood.
