2008-2009
The Welcome Home!
From August 2009, the Creative Learning Team worked with six local Primary Schools in a fantastic multi-arts performance project, that celebrated the return of collection objects to The McManus. The project was delivered in partnership with Dundee Rep Theatre, and each school worked with artists, musicians and drama specialists to explore the new gallery themes at the museum.
- P5 from Sidlaw View Primary School explored the 'Making of Modern Dundee' Gallery and were inspired by famous aspects of Dundee's social history, including its reputation for fantastic pies and football teams!
- At Claypotts Castle Primary School, children from P6b explored the history and architecture of the museum, and learned The Welcome Home! song, written especially for the project.
- P4 from St Fergus Primary School brought the museum's traditional art collection to life by turning themselves into Victorian Paintings from the Victoria Gallery.
- In Ardler Primary School, the P4's investigated the museum's natural history collection in the 'Landscapes & Lives' Gallery, to find out about the plants, animals and sea life that have lived in this part of Scotland.
- P5 from Glebelands Primary School created decorative precious artworks, inspired by the ones on show in the museum's 'Long Gallery' display of contemporary ceramics.
- And at Craigowl Primary School, P6/7 made a dazzling array of their own artefacts and treasures, inspired by the many world cultures included in the 'Dundee and the World' Gallery.
The performance took place at the museum on 21 January 2010 as part of a special day for Schools.
