'Active' in pack ice
Black and white photograph; made of paper

Donated by Mr Robert Ferguson in 1977
Museum number 1975-2-3-2

This black and white photograph shows the whaling ship 'Active' in pack ice. The ship's bows are to the viewer's right, with all her sails furled and no smoke visible from her funnel. She is wearing a flag from her mizzen mast and a crows nest is high on her mainmast. 'Active' was part of the Dundee whaling fleet from 1874 until 1916, although she did not go whaling after the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
