This sepia print shows two whaling ships against an icy background. The photograph was taken from the forecastle of the whaling ship 'Erik' and has the bowsprit and some of the associated paraphenalia on the right hand side of the picture. The other two vessels are seen from the starboard quarter, and have a number of white whaleboats prominent on their starboard sides. Their sails are furled. between 'Erik' and 'Active' are two men walking on the ice.
