Army Boxing Shield

This shield details the boxing achievements of Dundonian, Jim Thomas, in the British Army Team, from 1943-1946. The weight limit for a flyweight boxer is 112lb (51Kg) and bantamweight is 118lb (53.5Kg).
Jim was professional boxer both before and after the war. He died in Dundee in March 2007, aged 88.

After completing his army service, Jim and his brother Alec ran the Belmont Boxing Club in Hawkhill. They trained local young boxers, including Dundee's1956 Olympic Gold medal champion Dick McTaggart.
