Boulton-Watt engine model

This model represents the beam engine which was used to drive the machinery at Douglasfield Bleachfield. The engine was made at the foundry of Matthew Boulton and James Watt in Birmingham. It was installed in 1801 and was in use for almost a century. It is typical of the engines used in textile mills in the 1800s.
