This lantern slide shows Captain Thomas Robertson standing on the bridge of the Dundee whaling ship 'Active.' He is wearing a three quarter length coat and has a fur cap on his head, while he is holding a sextant. The ship's wheel is on the extreme left of the picture and there is an upside-down whaleboat secured a few feet above the captain's head.
