Captain William Adams in crow's nest
Lantern slide made of glass with metal frame

Donated by Mr Robert Ferguson in 1975
Museum number 1975-2-4-25

This lantern slide shows Captain William Adams in the crow's nest of a Dundee whaling ship. The crow's nest is a large barrel equipped with a telescope on a slide that rotates 360 degrees. Captain Adams, complete with beard and nautical hat, is inside the barrel with just his head and shoulders visible. When the photograph was taken, the crows nest was sitting on the deck and had not yet been hauled to the masthead.
