NCR pre-decimal cash register
Museum number 9999-853

The National Cash Register Company (NCR) was founded in 1884 by an American, John H. Patterson. The company made the first mechanical cash registers.

After the Second World War NCR chose Dundee as their UK base. This was the first
large American organisation to manufacture in Scotland.

Known locally as 'the Cash', NCR became the City's principal employer by the 1960s.
Some of the main products included automated cash machines (ATMs), cash
registers and computers.

NCR is still an important factory with research and development facilities within the City of Dundee.
