Coffee roaster

Donated by Mrs Leitch
Museum number 1978-836

Increasing demand led to the founding of tea and coffee merchants in the 1860s.
Braithwaite's in Castle Street is still a traditional tea and coffee supplier.

This is a late 1800s coffee roaster used by Braithwaite's, which was then located at the Town House in the High Street. Coffee beans would be ground in this machine on the premises and served to customers in paper bags.
