This sepia print shows two men looking at a dead narwhal lying on the ice while the bows of the whaling ship 'Erik' is behind them. On the left is a bearded crew man in a tight jacket. In front of him lies the narwhal, facing to the right and with the tip of its horn touching the ice. To the right of the narwhal is a tall gentleman with his hands in the pockets of his reefer jacket and what may be a deerstalker on his head. Behind him in the fore part of a ship with the bowsprit rising out of the picture and the name 'Erik' quite plain.
