The words: 'The "Erik" beset off Pond's Bay' are written beneath this sepia print. The picture was taken from the port quarter of the the vessel and shows her riding high amidst a field of ice. Her sails are furled and she has four white whaleboats suspended from davits along the upper hull, and a fifth suspended from her stern. There is another three masted vessel in the distance.
