Underneath this sepia print are the words: '"Esquimaux", Dexterity Island.' The picture shows a group of seventeen Inuit, men, women and children, on the deck of a whaling ship. They are posing for the camera, with a line sitting and the remainder standing behind. The man on either flank is holding a long barrelled rifle and has a pipe in his mouth. Behind the group, at the left side of the photograph, is the front half of a whaleboat, with the name 'Diana' inscribed.
