Tara is a female Buddha and goddess of universal compassion. Her manifestation as Green Tara symbolises youthful vigour. She is seated in lalita asana, the pose of ease, on a lotus throne. Her right hand is held in varada mudra, the gesture of charity. Her left hand held in vitarka, the mystic gesture of Taras and Bodhisattvas. She holds the stem of a lotus flower that floats over her shoulder as a symbol of purity and power.
