Some Buddhist schools recognise Adi Buddha or the supreme Buddha. He is regarded as self-emanating and the true source of all that exists, including the other Buddhas. The Adi Buddha is known by many names including Vajradhara and is always shown crowned and ornamented. He holds the thunderbolt, vajra in his right hand and the bell, ghanta in his left.
