This photograph shows a dead whale lying in the mud at Stonehaven Harbour The whale's tail is on the bottom left of the picture. There is a crowd of men and boys to the left of the animal. One man has his hand on the whale; he is wearing a bowler hat. There is another crowd, mainly of boys, on the right, standing behind the whale's outstreched fin. There are a number of vessels in the harbour, with two inshore fishing boats, one bearing the inscription '121 A'. One of the larger vessels is named 'Star.'
