Based in Rome, Jacob More was one of Scotland's greatest Neo-Classical painters and one of the few British artists to enjoy an international reputation in his lifetime.

Here he sets the Biblical story of the Good Samaritan in an Italianate landscape. The Samaritan stopped to help a man, who had been robbed and left to die at the side of the road.
