Harpoon head
Harpoon head made of steel

Donated by Dr Hanson, 1995
Museum number 1995-424-1

This harpoon head was found in a South Georgia whaling station, 1976. Although it is rusted now, it is of an exploding variety and would have been deadly in its day. Conical in shape, it has a hollow base and fins near the pointed top to enable it to fly staright.
