Flemish, 17th Century
Hunting Party Outside an Inn
Oil on canvas
Bequeathed by George Duncan, 1878
Museum Number 6-1912
This work was donated with the title "Charles II in Banishment". It was believed to be a painting of the King during his exile in Holland, before his restoration to the British throne in 1660. It is more likely that the artist, inspired by Van Tilborgh's group portraits of Flemish merchants, has painted a rich burgher and his household.
