Museum number 1974-407-28

The Broughty Ferry photographer F. N. Gillies took this photograph. It shows an Inuit woman sitting beside the bulwark of a whaling ship, with her right leg folded onto her left thigh as she mends her shoe. There is a length of rope at her left side and a white or light coloured whaleboat suspended behind her. The square stern of another whaleboat can be seen at the top left of the picture.
