This sunlit pastoral scene is painted in the style of the Dutch painter Nicolaes Berchem, who was famous for his Italianate landscapes. Originally titled, 'Labourers Lunching', it shows figures set in a countryside idyll seen through a golden haze. This romantic vision of Italy was very popular with collectors.
