Alec Grieve played a major role in the artists' community based in Dundee in the 1890s, alongside John Duncan, George Dutch Davidson and David Foggie.

This work is a watercolour illumination of the text of a poem in memory of Davidson. The poem was written by the artist C S Mills. The figures are set against a background of the River Tay and Dundee Law.
