This lantern slide image shows a section of a page of the log of 'Aurora'. The page is dated 19th July 1884 and has the image of a whale's tail and half a whale's tail. The text alongside says that the crew sighted a whale at five in the morning of the 19th, the mate 'got fast' or harpooned the animal at six o' clock and by eleven the whale was alongside the ship and the crew were flensing her - stripping the blubber.
