Lantern slide of a whaling ship in pack ice

This lantern slide shows a whaling ship boring her way through pack ice. The photograph was taken from the port bow so shows the bow and port side of the vessel. She has no sails set but there may be some men on her bowsprit. It is possible the vessel is thrusting through the ice on the way to pick up a 'pan' or gathering of slaughtered seals.
