This lantern slide shows a large section of blubber being lowered onto the deck of a Dundee whaling ship. The blubber has just been stripped- or 'flensed'- from a whale and will now be cut into smaller chunks and stored down below. There is a number of whaling crewmen standing ready to cut up the blubber. The man on the right is carrying a blubber spade, with a long blade.
