Millais obtained fame as one of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood during the 1840s. He was much in demand as an illustrator and illustrated the famous Moxon edition of the poems of Tennyson. Much of his illustrative work is in black and white and his works in watercolour are rare.
This illustrates 'The Daydream' also known as 'The Sleeping Palace' about a sleeping beauty woken by a kiss.
