Central Asia, Nepal

Donated by Miss I A Tyrie, 1989

Book covers like this were inspired by the Indian and Nepalese tradition of protecting pages of texts written on palm fronds. The great width of this cover indicates that it was used to enclose larger pages of paper. It depicts three tantric deities standing on double lotus thrones, flanked by attendants and celestial nymphs.
