This combined Certificate of Character and Discharge was issued to Mr Charles Myers in November 1861. The Certificate of Discharge states that Mr Myers was born in Heligoland in 1821 [other sources say 1818] and had been employed as the '1st Harpooner' on the Kirkcaldy registered ship 'Abram.' It also states that he was emplyed between the 23 February 1861 and the 1st November 1861 and sailed to the Davis Straits. 'Abram' was a 319 ton ship with the official number of 18034. The Certificate of Character gave Mr Myers 'V. G.' for both ability and conduct and was signed by 'David Soutar' the ship master as well as the shipping agent.
