One of a series of Certificates of Discharge for Mr Charles Myers, 1867

This combined Certificate of Character and Certificate of Discharge was issued to Mr Charles Myers of the 5th of November 1867. The Certificate of Character on the left was signed by Alexander Deuchars and gives Mr Myers a character of 'VG' for both conduct and ability. The Certificate of Discharge on the right states that Mr Myers was employed as a harpooner and boatswain in the Dundee registered ship 'Narwhal' on a whale fishing voyage between the 26th February 1867 and the 3rd November 1867. It also states that Mr Myers was born in Heligoland in 1818, and that 'Narwhal' was a 434 ton vessel with the official number of 22686. There is a space on the back of the Certificate for My Myers to sign his name.
