One of a series of Certificates of Discharge for Mr Charles Myers, 1856

This combined Certificate of Character and Discharge was issued to Mr Charles Myers on the 19th December 1856. The Certificate of Character, on the left, was signed by Captain Patrick and gives Mr Myers the character of 'Good' for both ability and conduct. The Certificate of Discharge, on the right, said that Mr Myers had been born in Heligoland in1822 [other authorities say 1818] and he had been employed as a seaman in the Dundee registered ship 'Brothers'. The Certificate also said the voyage from Dundee to Cronstadt and London had lasted from the 22 Septembet 1856 until the 17th December 1856 and 'Brothers' was a vessel of 206 tons with an official number of 15090. There is apace on the reverse for Mr Myers to append his signature.
