This combined Certificate of Character and Discharge was issued to Mr Charles Myers in November 1865. The Certificate of Character on the left stated Mr Myers had a 'V.G.' character in both ability and conduct and was signed by the shipmaster, David Souter. On the right, the Certificate of Discharge said that Mr Myers had been born in Heligoland in 1824 [other sources say 1818] and had been a harpooner and second mate on the Dundee registered ship 'Wildfire.' It also said that 'Wildfire' was a 288 ton ship with an official number of 5489 and had been on a voyage to the 'Davis Straits Whale Fishing.'
