This combined Certificate of Character and Discharge was issued to Mr Charles Myers in October 1866. The Certificate of Character, on the left, stated that Mr Myers had a 'VG' character for both conduct and ability, and was signed by Captain Souter. On the right, the Certificate of Discharge said that Mr Meyers had been born in Heligoland in 1821 [other sources say 1818] and had been employed as '2nd Mate' on the Dundee registered ship 'Wildfire' on a voyage to the 'Davis Straits Whale fishing.' The Certificate also said that 'Wildfire' had a registered tonnage of 288 and a registered number of 5489. There is a space on the reverse of the Certificate for Mr Myers' signature.
