This document has 'Certificate of Discharge' across the top, with the logo of the 'Com. of Council For Trade' in the top left corner. It states that 'Henry Navill' was aged 27 and was born in Dundee. It also states he had been engaged as an 'A.B.' on the 1519 ton Glasgow registered vessel 'Devonshire', official number 73987 on a voyage to North America. Mr Navill had been engaged between the 24th September 1879 and the 25th February 1880. The Master, David Swan, had signed the bottom of the certificate and on the reverse had given Mr Navill a very good character for both ability and conduct.
