This black and white photograph was clipped from a newspaper. It shows the exploration ship 'Endurance' lying in harbour. She has three masts and a funnel, with two white lifeboats visible on deck. There is also an inset of Sir Ernest Shackleton, in naval uniform and with a nautical cap on his head. The caption for the photographs reads: 'The news that Sir Ernest Shackleton is safe has been received with intense satisfaction throughout the country. Above we give a picture of the Endurance, and, inset, a portrait of Sir Ernest Shackleton.'
