Museum number 1968-87-1

This black and white photograph shows the whale catcher 'Southern Hunter' approaching at some speed. The photograph was taken from in front of, and to the right of, the vessel and so shows her starboard bow and ranges down her starboard side. Her name is very clear but the harpoon gun has not yet been fitted to her bows. She has a short mast near her bows, with a crow's nest near the top, a square bridge and basic superstructure on which sits her funnel, and a lifeboat on davits above her deck aft/ There is land in the background with some sort of industrial complex on the extreme right.
