This lantern slide shows a polar bear shot by one of the crew of the Dundee whaling ship 'Aurora.' The dead bear is being lowered onto a hatch cover on the deck of the ship. It is suspended by a chain around its neck. There is a bearded, shirt-sleeved crew man sitting beside the bear, with the top of his head just in line with the bear's fore paws.
