This postcard depicts two polar bears on the deck of a whaling ship. One is an adult female, who is lying on her side with her mouth open. She is probably dead. The other is a cub, which is leaning its chin on top of the female. The caption beneath the picture reads: 'Polar Bears- "Is Mother Dead?'
