Initials AW could be Alexander Wilkie, who flourished in Edinburgh in the first half of the 19th century.

Punch bowl with whalebone handle. The bowl and tip are silver and there is a florin of George II within the bowl. The Arctic whalers brought back whalebone, or baleen, which was used for many things, from stayes in women's costimes to springs and chair backs. Punch bowl handles was just one more use.
