Museum number 6-1962

An Arctic scene showing part of the whaling fleet trapped in ice pack, with ships sinking and crew camping on ice. 1837. There are a number of ships here under a heavy sky. The picture may be the Baffin Fair of 1830 when 19 British ships, including two from Dundee were sunk while crossing from Melville Bay in the Davis Straits.
