Unusually, the wave forms are not applied decoration but show the colour of the natural stoneware base. The exterior of this pot was rubbed with raw manganese oxide turning the pot black in the kiln and highlighting its rough surface texture.

Waistel Cooper was a celebrated potter of the 1950's and 60's. Self-taught, the restrained shapes of his works combine Chinese influences with early Mediterranean art.
