Will Maclean’s family were fishermen and fishing and the sea are of great importance to his work. This powerful work was inspired by the death of his uncle, William Reid, who was a ring-net fisherman. The faceless lifejacket surrounded by the paraphernalia of the fishing industry also acts as a powerful requiem for a passing way of life.
