S.S. Active under sail in pack ice

This lantern slide shows the Dundee whaling ship 'Active' under sail in pack ice near Spitsbergen in 1894. 'Active' is barque rigged, with a fore-and-aft mizzen and her main sail is furled. She has five whaleboats on view on her port side, with anchor chains descending from her bow and stern.
